Local edition, with Spain and Portugal flights. Viasa, the former state-owned Venezuelan airline, is quite probably one of the most beloved defunct carriers of the region. It was sold to the Iberia group in 1991. The privatisation has been heavily criticized then and continues to be so. Anyhow, it was quite probably not the smartest of possible decisions, since Iberia itself was not in a very good shape. Evwentually, Iberia was not able to heal the money-lossing airling airline (which suffered from severe mismanagement since many years before) and Viasa folded up in 1997. Conviasa is the new Venezuelan state carrier since 2004.

One of the problems Viasa had was that for an airline of its relatively small fleet size, they served a quite large network. Each destination, however, was underserved with low-frequency services. This was the last livery Viasa had on their planes, clearly resembling the Iberia scheme.
