In 1990, Air Europe was facing the future with optimism. They had plans to establish themselves as the second biggest British airline from their Gatwick base, and to build an European group of aligned airlines in Italy, Spain, Germany (NFD), Norway... Air Europe was actually the first airline that tried to build a paneuropean aviation group.
Their route network was growing, and they also had a regional affiliate airline (Connectair / Air Europe express) which flew to secondary destinations; they also made a big effort to get rid of their charter airline reputation and to make themselves appear as a proud, proffessional, business-like airline "like the traditional carriers"
We should give Air Europe credit as they had some good ideas and to some extent they were antecipating the future of European airline scene; however, the whole project was deemed to fail (as it happened soon after) for a number of reasons.
