Due to politica sensitivies between Taiwan and the PRC foreign airlines were not allowed to serve both destination markets at the same time, so around the 90's many airlines came with the same idea. They set up a mock airline that would fly to Taiwan, keeping the mainline to the PRC. Thus, many airlines bearing the name "Asia" appeared as subsidiaries of KLM, Air France, British Airways, Swissair and other. JAA (Japan Asia Airways) was the JAL subsidiary, serving mostly Taiwan but also some other airports such as Bangkok.
