Si no me equivoco, este es un horario de Air Europa anterior a este otro que había publicado antes, casi con toda seguridad el primero que publicó la compañía en 1993 cuando en España empezaron a operar vuelos regulares aerolíneas privadas:

Ya hemos comentado alguna vez que durante un breve tiempo la antigua aerolínea charter de Lufthansa pasó a llamarse Thomas Cook Airlines (powered by Condor) ...Aunque sigue siendo en la actualidad una filial de Thomas Cook, muy poco después recuperó el nombre Condor, que tenía mucho más valor para el mercado alemán. Esta tarjeta postal para el mercado canario corresponde al breve periodo en el que la compañía cambió de nombre, y en concreto cuando se estaba intentando introducir la nueva marca.

This postcard was intended for the Canary Islands market and it was issued when Condor, the former Lufthansa leisure flights subsidiary, changed its name to Thomas Cook Airlines (powered by Condor). Condor is still a Thomas Cook owned airline, but the Condor name was strong enough in the German market to revert the name change after a very short while.

AB Airlines (el nombre viene de Air Bristol) fue una de las primeras operaciones low cost en el Reino Unido y en Europa. Volaban a Berlín, Niza,Lisboa y Shannon desde Londres y Birminghan, con 737 y Bac 1-11, aunque el concepto de LCC en esa época nos recordaría mucho más al de las compañías tradicionales que al que manejan hoy en día Easyjet o Ryanair. Entre otras cosas, AB airlines ofrecía una business class tradicional en sus vuelos.

AB Airlines (AB meaning Air Bristol) was one of the first low cost airlines in the UK and in Europe, even if the LCC concept AB was following had little resemblance with Easyjet or Ryanair nowadays. AB Airlines flew with 737 and Bac 1-11 from London and Birmingban to Lisbon,Nice and Shannon and it featured a full service Business Class.

Rheintalflug (1991)

Rheintalflug basaba su actividad regular en volar desde el aeropuerto de Altenrhein (en Suiza, muy cerca de Austria) a Viena. Era una de esas aerolíneas regionales que solo sobreviven actuando en cooperación con otras empresas (en 1991 estaban asociados a Austrian Airlines, en 1997 a Lufthansa ... finalmente acabaron siendo difuminados dentro de la empresa austriaca) y que, tal como están las cosas, hoy sería poco más que impensable una compañía como esta.

Rheintalflug main scheduled activity consisted on business flights between Altenrhein (a small Swiss airport near the Austrian border) to Vienna. This kind of airlines were just not able to survive without an alliance with a major player: in 1991, they were Austrian Airlines partners, later in 1997 they were aligned with Lufthansa ... In the end, Austrian Airlines bought the airline and the Rheintalflug brand disappeared. With the current economic climate, I seriously doubt an airline like this would ever take off again.

Maersk Air (1992/1993)

Maersk Air usaba como slogan The Danish Airline, y probablemente (dejando a SAS aparte) lo más parecido a una aerolínea nacional danesa durante muchos años. Volaban rutas domésticas (dentro de la alianza Danair) incluyendo los vuelos a las islas Feroe, que durante mucho tiempo fueron una ruta emblemática de esta empresa, y a partir de finales de los 80 comenzaron a servir destinos internacionales.

La empresa finalmente desapareció en 2005 cuando se unió a Sterling, la cual hoy está unida a su vez con Cimber Air.

Maersk Air claimed to be The Danish Airline, and it quite probably was for many years, other than SAS, obviously. It flew domestic routes (including their flagship flight to the Faroes Islands) under the Danair alliance, until it started serving international destinations in the late 80's and the 90's.

Maersk Air ceased operations in 2005, when it got merged with Sterling, which in turn got later merged with Cimber Air.

Suckling Airways es una aerolínea regional con base en Cambridge que operó regularmente entre Cambridge, Manchester y Amsterdam, como se ve en este folleto sin fechar; en él afirman también ser la aerolínea más eficiente entre las que operaban en Schiphol (!)

Durante un tiempo volaron con el nombre Scot Airways, antes de recuperar su nombre original. Actualmente, continúa con su identidad independiente, aunque ya no opera vuelos regulares y ha sido adquirida por Loganair.

Suckling Airways is a small Cambridge-based regional carrier, which once flew scheduled services between Cambridge, Manchester and Amsterdam, as shown in this undated schedule leaflet. It also claimed to be the most efficient airline at Schiphol airport at the time (!)

Suckling Airways traded under the Scot Airways name for a while, until it readopted its original name. It continues operating as an independient carrier, but it is now a Loganair subsidiary and it does not longer fly scheduled flights.

Ansett Australia (1999)

En 1999, Ansett y Air New Zealand ya eran miembros de Star Alliance. En el mapa que aparece al final de este horario se puede ver bastante bien la red mundial de Star en ese año.

Este horario fue publicado hacia el final de la historia de Ansett, poco antes de su unión con Air New Zealand y su cierre en medio de una quiebra financiera. También corresponde al periodo en el que la aerolínea australiana volaba a algunos puntos internacionales en Asia y en las islas del Pacífico.

In 1999, both Ansett and Air New Zealand were already Star Alliance members. The map at the end of this timetable is a good picture of the global network given by Star Alliance members at the time.

This is a late Ansett timetable, printed before its merger with Air New Zealand and ultimate financial collapse. In the mid-late 90's Ansett was flying internationally to some points in Asia and the Pacific islands.

Another international Air New Zealand schedule. By 1993, Mount Cook was already part of their domestic operation. Besides their manin intercontinental hub at Auckland, Honololulu, Apia and Nadi were further main waypoints in the Pacific area.

Star Alliance was still some years ahead, but this timetable shows how some of its members were already partners at the time...

Edición separada con los servicios domésticos en Nueva Zelanda de Ansett y sus afiliadas regionales. En esta época Ansett había adoptado la bandera australiana en su librea, pero la filial neozelandesa mantenía el esquema anterior, con la cola decorada con estrellas. También, al igual que la compañía matriz australiana, tenían un acuerdo de cooperación con United Airlines.

Cuando Air New Zealand pasó a ser la dueña de Ansett Australia unos años más tarde , Ansett New Zealand pasó a ser durante un breve periodo de tiempo Qantas New Zealand ... un poco lioso, ¿no?

A separate brochure with domestic services in New Zealand operated by Ansett mainline and its affiliate regional carriers. Whilst Ansett Australia had changed its livery and was sporting an Australian flag, the NZ branch kept the starred tail scheme. Just like the Australian partner airline, Ansett NZ had an inline agreement with United Airlines.

Ansett New Zealand became Qantas New Zealand some years later, when Air New Zealand became the owner of Ansett Australia ... just to spice things a bit, it seems :)

Australian Airlines (1992)

Durante muchísimos años, Ansett fue el principal operador privado en Australia. (También operaba una filial en Nueva Zelanda, que está incluida en este folleto). Su red de vuelos cubría todo el país, a veces en cooperación con otros operadores más pequeños y con varias aerolíneas regionales de su propiedad (su operación era principalmente doméstica, aunque a mediados de los 90 comenzó a volar rutas internacionales) En 1989 estaban incorporando a su flota el Airbus A320, rebautizado como Skystar. Esto de cambiar el nombre de los aviones parece ser una costumbre muy australiana...

Ansett was the main private airline operating in Australia for many years. There was also an Ansett New Zealand subsidiary, which is also included in this timetable booklet. It covered the whole country, sometimes with the help of smaller airlines and also some regional affiliates it owned (It was mostly a domestic airline, even if it started some international flights from the mid 90's).

In 1989, Ansett was introducing the Airbus A320 in its fleet. It seems it is a very Australian thing to rebrand aircraft models: the A320 became the Skystar in the Ansett fleet.

East-West Airlines era una aerolínea regional que luchaba por ser la tercera aerolínea australiana; en esa época el mercado estaba bastante reguralizado (básicamente, a nivel nacional se permitía un operador privado y otro público entre las principales ciudades, y estos eran Ansett y TAA/Australian respectivamente) y la estrategia de East-West era cubrir el país a base de saltos de corto recorrido.

East-West Airlines was an Australian regional airline, which eventually became the third Australian operator, at a time when domestic air traffic was regulated under the "Two airlines policy". This meant that only one public owned airline (TAA / Australian) and a private carrier (Ansett) were allowed to fly between main cities. East-West defyed this policy by using short commuter hops to link cities.

Nica (1994)

Después de Lanica y Aeronica, Nica (Nicaragüense de Aviación) fue la tercera encarnación de la aerolínea nacional de Nicaragua. En este horario se muestran sus operaciones, a Miami con un 737 y los vuelos domésticos usando el Aviocar Casa-212, además de un vuelo que unía otras capitales centroamericanas en cooperación con Aviateca.

Nica desapareció en 2004, integrada en el grupo Taca. Desde entonces, ha habido planes para crear una nueva aerolínea en ese país (aunque uno era de la mano de Gadair, lo cual no daba demasiada credibilidad al proyecto) y aún no está claro si la nueva Air Nicaragua comenzará a volar.

Nica (Nicaragüense de Aviación) was the third encarnation of the Nicaraguan national airline, after Lanica and Aeronica. It flew domestically using Casa-211 Aviocar planes, and also had a 737 flying to Miami. There also was a codeshare with Aviateca which linked Managua with other Central American capital cities.

Nica dissappeared in 2004, when it merged into the Taca Group. There had been plans after that to relaunch a Nicaraguan national airline, but with no succes up to this date. It is still unclear wheter Air Nicaragua will ever start or not.

Avianca (1988), Frankfurt

Nada especialmente interesante para hoy. En todo caso, esta simple hoja mecanografiada es un buen ejemplo del tipo de rutas que las compañías sudamericanas volaban a Europa. Avianca volaba a Bogotá y Caracas desde Frankfurt (ahora es un vuelo operado por Lufthansa en código compartido), y en esta hoja se incluyen conexiones con Lacsa, Viasa y SAM (que más tarde acabó integrada en Avianca)

Not a really exciting item today,I know. Still, this simple sheet, is a good souvenir of the aerial links between Europe and south america that were once available. Avianca was flying from Frankfurt to Bogotá (this is now a codeshared flight, operated by Lufthansa) and Caracas, and this timetable also lists connections with Viasa, Lacsa and SAM (which merged with Avianca later)

Air Pacific es una de las aerolíneas "grandes" en la región, o al menos tiene vuelos de larga distancia a los EEUU y el sur de Asia, pero en 1977 era una compañía bastante más pequeña de lo que es ahora. Volaban con el Bac 1-11 haciendo una serie de saltos entre las islas de la zona y Australia. Este tipo de vuelos, que enlazan las capitales de la región, me recuerdan a la situación que había en Centroamérica antes de que se formara el grupo Taca, cuando cada país tenía su propia aerolínea ... Además, en los años 70 las compañías sudamericanas también volaban con este modelo de avión.

Air Pacific is one of the "big" players in the Pacific region, as it flies widebodies in longhaul flights to the USA and southern Asia. In 1977 it was a much smaller airline that was island-hopping with the Bac 1-11 going as far as Australia. It somewhat remembers me the times in Central America when the Taca group was not yet present and every country had its own little airline which almost the same routes between national capitals... plus, the airlines in Central America also flew this kind of aircraft in the 70's.

TAA Trans Australia Airlines (1978)

TAA (Trans Australian Airlines) fue la gran aerolínea doméstica australiana, de titularidad federal. Todo un icono en la historia de la aviación de ese país, que duró hasta mediados de los años 90, cuando fue finalmente disuelta en la estructura de Qantas.

Este horario de la TAA de finales de los 70 no solo da una idea de la cobertura doméstica del país en ese momento; también incluye otras pequeñas aerolíneas regionales y los servicios de Qantas y Air Niugini a Papúa-Nueva Guinea (que hasta apenas unos años antes había sido colonia australiana y a donde volaba en consecuencia TAA)

TAA (Trans Australian Airlines), an iconic airline in the Australian skies, was a Federal-owned domestic airline that covered pretty much the whole country and which existed untill the mid-90's, when Qantas took its operations.

This TAA timetable from the late 70's does not only let us have a look at the domestic air traffic scene in Australia at the time, it also gives details for many small commuter airlines that would connect with TAA services, and also Qantas /Air Niugini flights to Papua-New Guinea. Just a few years before TAA planes were also flying to PNG, since it formerly was an Australian colony.

Solomon Airlines (1993)

Folleto con las rutas internacionales de Solomon Airlines (recientemente ha cambiado de nombre a Fly Solomons), la compañía nacional de las Islas Salomón, un país compuesto por aproximadamente 900 islas (!) y que cuenta también con una red doméstica que no aparece en estos horarios. Además de los vuelos de la compañía se incluye información turística del país.

En realidad, la red de rutas no es muy diferente de la de Air Vanuatu. Las aerolíneas de esta zona del mundo vuelan más o menos los mismos trayectos y de hecho colaboran entre ellas.

Solomon Airlines (the airline has recently renamed itself as Fly Solomons) is the national flag carrier of the Solomon Islands, a country with some 900 islands (!). The airline also has a domestic network, but this timetable only shows international schedules. This brochure also includes some touristic information about the country.

The network looks pretty much like the Air Vanuatu routemap. Airlines in this region often share services as they fly almost to the same destinations.

Mount Cook Airline (1984)

Mount Cook era una empresa neozelandesa de servicios turísticos que ofrecía todo tipo de transporte por tierra, mar y aire además de alojamiento y otros productos. Tenían también una aerolínea, puramente doméstica, que más tarde pasó a ser parte de Air New Zealand.

Mount Cook was a New Zealand tourism services company that offered all kind of transport services (over land, air and sea) as well as lodging and other products. It owned and operated a domestic airline that later became part of Air New Zealand.

RAM Royal Air Maroc (1999), vuelos internacionales

Como el horario que publicamos ayer de vuelos domésticos, este folleto de 1999 de la RAM está lleno de anuncios sobre los productos y servicios de la empresa. En este año la principal novedad era la introducción del 737-800 y la presentación de sus servicios online, como muchas otras empresas hacían a finales del siglo pasado...

Como un sutil signo de las relaciones árabe-israelíes, RAM fue una de las pocas aerolíneas que llegó a volar al aeropuerto de Gaza en Palestina.

This RAM timetable is packed with airline promos about their products and services, just like the domestic flights counterpart we published yesterday. In 1999 Royal Air Maroc main highlights were their new online services (just like many other airlines by the turn of the century) and the recentely introduced 737-800.

As a subtle hint of the Arab-Israeli relationships, RAM was one of the few airlines that ever flew to Gaza airport in Palestine.

The RAM 1999 system timetable came in two flavours, a domestic flights edition and an international one (which I will post tomorrow). There used to be a domestic airline, Royal Air Inter, that got merged with the parent company.

A rather misleading route map, since it suggests that all domestic flights depart or arrive at Casablanca and does not show transversal routes. On the other hand, Dakhla and Laayoune are listed as "domestic" flights since Western Sahara is occupied by Morocco.

Air Afrique (1990)

Air Afrique era una compañía panafricana, y, esencialmente, la aerolínea del África francófona. Este es un horario de 1990, cuando a la compañía apenas le quedaba una década de vida (fundamentalmente, la mala gestión y la corrupción acabaron con ella).

En este folleto aparecen también muchos vuelos de UTA y de pequeñas compañías africanas como Air Ivoire o Air Burkina, que conectaban con Air Afrique en Abdijan o Dakar. Además de cubrir buena parte del continente, Air Afrique volaba a Europa, Nueva York y a Brasil (en código compartido con Varig)

Air Afrique was a pan-African airline, or more exactly, the national airline of many countries in french-speaking Africa. The airline would only last about 10 years after this timetable was printed, as it died victim of mismanagement and corruption.

This brochure lists as well many UTA flights, and also some smaller African airlines such as Air Ivoire or Air Burkina that would connect with Air Afrique at their Abdijan or Dakar hubs. Air Afrique also flew to Europe, New York and Brazil (a Varig codeshare)

Nationwide Airlines era una compañía sudafricana que tenía planes bastante ambiciosos. En el año 2000 se asociaba con las compañías miembro de Qualiflyer TAP y Sabena, entre otras. En esos años volaban vuelos domésticos y regionales, pero unos años más tarde inició vuelos intercontinentales a Londres (tenían planes para expandirse por Europa y Asia).

Nationwide Airlines was a pretty ambitious South African airline that partnered with Qualiflyer airlines TAP and Sabena, among others. In 2000 they were flying domestically and regionally but some years later it started intercontinental flights to London (there were plans for further grow in Europe and Asia)

Una portada realmente horrorosa para este folleto de una época en la que Air Zimbabwe vivió, como dije ayer, tiempos mejores y más felices, en los que la red llegaba a Frankfurt y Londres en Europa y a Sidney en Australia, con una variedad de aparatos que iban desde el 707 (!) 767, pasando por el Fokker 100 y el Bae 146 para vuelos regionales.

The Moroccan airline RAM is one of the few African airlines that is still flying to North America. When this timetable was published, Royal Air Maroc had an extensive code share agreement with Iberia, plus it also had shares on Air Sénégal International. There was also a low cost subsidiary, Atlas Blue, which also codeshared flights with the parent company.Also, some flights were operated by Regional Airlines, a small Moroccan carrier which some operations to Spain and Portugal which is now flying under the Royal Air Maroc Express name.

It seems the London and Johannesburg flights are temporarily suspended right now...

Kenya Airways fue la primera compañía de bandera africana en ser privatizada, en 1996. En 1999 iniciaban una relación estratégica con KLM (que a día de hoy aun tiene la mayor parte de las acciones de la empresa en manos privadas), conectando vía el hub de Amsterdam con todo el mundo.

Esta era la época en la que KLM intentaba crear una red mundial de aerolíneas. En aquel momento también formaba una alianza con Alitalia y por eso en el mapa de rutas aparece un vuelo en código compartido con la compañía italiana.

Kenya Airways was the first African flag carrier to be privatized in 1996. In 1999 the airline was starting an alliance partnership with KLM (which is still today the airline largest private investor) and Kenya Airways flights would connect with the world via the Amsterdam hub.

Around that year KLM was busy trying to build a global airline alliance. Alitalia was also part of the KLM partner airlines, which explains the codeshare flight to Milan.

Namibia was only six years old as an independent country back in 1996, but Air Namibia (now a State-owned airline since it was nationalized in 1998) is a much older airline. It flies domestically and it also flies to the neighbouring countries, plus it also has an intercontinental service to London and Frankfurt in Europe.

In 1996, Air Namibia was still using the DC-6 aircraft for some flights, fitted with "executive plane seats" according to this timetable, but the DC-6 are also listed as "classic flights".

This was the local edition for the Spanish market for your typical Swissair "red booklet" in the 80's. That means that it includes tons of possible connections via Switzerland from all Spanish airports, and it also lists flights to Zürich and Geneva that were operated by other airlines. Also, Swissair was informing that they were using the Fokker 100 to "more destinations across Europe".

Swissair and Crossair were not as closely linked together as they would be some years after, but some flights are listed as operated by the Crossair SF3 equipment. Also, there are cabin plans for the Crossair SF3, as well as the Balair MD-82 and CTA MD-87 at the end of the booklet.

There were also some sketchy drawings showing Switzerland most important airports, at Zürich and Geneva. As far as I can recall, these are the most useless airport maps I have ever seen.

Viasa (1979)

"La aerolínea de la floreciente Venezuela", tal como anuncia la publicidad en este folleto de Viasa del año 1979. Además de los vuelos de Viasa se incluyen muchas conexiones a otros destinos y vuelos operados por otras compañías a Caracas, como los de Lacsa o los de British Caledonian desde Londres. KLM usaba Lisboa como puerta de entrada a América del sur, y también aparecen algunos vuelos de esta compañía, que por muchos años tuvo una relación privilegiada con Viasa.

"The airline of booming Venezuela", as the ad inside this Viasa brochure from 1979 says. This timetable lists not only Viasa flights, but also many connecting services to other destinations and flights operated by other carriers to Caracas, such as Lacsa or British Caledonian from London. KLM was using Lisbon as a South American gateway and some of the Dutch airline flights in South America are also shown. Both airlines, KLM and Viasa, were in good terms for many years.

Ya hemos tenido algunos ejemplos de SAA de antes y después del fin del Apartheid; Este folleto de 1990 corresponde a un periodo intermedio en el que comenzaba una tímida democratización del país (que aun tardaría varios años en finalizar).

En él se incluyen los servicios internacionales de SAA, además de numerosas conexiones a otros puntos en Europa y África. Además, en esta época otras aerolíneas europeas como TAP o Olympic volaban a Johanesburgo, y Sabena y UTA volaban entre Kinshasa y Sudáfrica.

We had already had some previous posts about SAA here, both before and after the Apartheid regime. In 1990, the country was starting a slowish democratization process (which would still last for several years)

This 1990 timetable includes international services flown by SAA, plus many connections to other destinations in Europe and the Americas. Airlines such as TAP and Olympic were flying to Johannesburg, and also Sabena and UTA were flying between Kinshasa and South Africa.

Antiguamente, se editaba en España esta publicación periódica con todos los servicios de tren, barcos y aviones. Como curiosidad, os cuelgo la sección de horarios de vuelos publicada en septiembre de 1982. Incluye todos los vuelos domésticos (obviamente entonces operados por Iberia y Aviaco únicamente) con sus tarifas, además de la mayoría de los vuelos internacionales (al parecer, algunas compañías no habían mandado la información a la hora de publicar) En esta época Iberia volaba a Moscú (dejó de hacerlo durante unos años más tarde), a Oriente Medio y también a algún destino hoy abandonado en su red como Kinshasa.

Ciertamente, eran muchos menos de los que hay hoy en día, con un mercado mucho más regulado en el que había también menos compañías y casi todas estatales. Por otro lado, Iberia atendía menos ciudades europeas pero saliendo de más aeropuertos españoles.

This kind of booklets, showing all train, air and ferry services in Spain, were published at regular times for many years. I am posting today the air section of this September, 1982 issue, including all domestic flights and fares (at the time Iberia and Aviaco were the only airlines in the country), plus almost all international services to/from Spain (it seems some airlines had not sent their data at the time this edition was sent to press). Iberia was flying to Moscow (this was flight was suspended for some years later) , to the Middle East and also to some other destinations which are no longer served, such as Kinshasa.

There were certainly far fewer flights as they are today, as there were as well far less airlines (most of them State-owned) and the market was thighly regulated. On the other hand, Iberia had a quite limited European network but it flew European flights from many Spanish airports.

Ghana Airways (1994), Alemania

The former state-owned Ghanan airline flew using DC-10 to Europe and North America. Según el horario 2011/2012,todavia vuelan a Italia (Roma y Milán) además de París y Londres, pero he leído recientemente que la compañía tiene planes de reducir las operaciones de largo recorrido y convertise en una aerolínea regional.

Tourism plays a major role in the Seychelles Islands economy, and this allowed the flag carrier of this tiny nation to operate a sizeable longhaul network. In 2001, for instance, they flew to London via Zürich, and they were also serving other major European airports such as Rome and Frankfurt in the recent years (IIRC, Madrid was at some point in the Air Seychelles network)...

According to the 2011/2012 timetable, the airline is still flying to Italy (Milan and Rome) plus London and Paris, , but I have read recently that the airline has plans to restablish itself as a regional carrier.

Una pequeña aerolínea sueca, que no duró mucho, que volaba entre Malmö y Hamburgo. En el folleto insisten bastante en su venta libre de impuestos ("la más barata de Europa") y en que operan en cooperación con Lufthansa, aunque realmente no sé si la asistencia de Lufthansa se limitaba a ser meramente técnica. Tendria que verlo, pero no recuerdo que Lufthansa incluyera a Sweden Airways como una de sus asociadas regionales.

A small Swedish airline that did not last much around and that flew between Malmö and Hamburg. This brochure tells us about its "cheapest in Europe" tax-free onboard and that they were operating in partnership with Lufthansa. I did not check it, but I don't remember Lufthansa ever listed Sweden Airways as their regional partner, so perhaps the German airline was just providing technical assistance.

Royal Swazi, la antigua aerolínea nacional de este país africano, todavía existe, aunque hoy en día es una agencia de viajes que vende billetes de avión. Actualmente, el gobierno mantiene el 60% de Swaziland Airlink, una aerolínea creada en 1999 e integrada en el grupo de South African Airlines.

Royal Swazi was the former national flag carrier of this small African country. It still exits today, but it only sells air tickets as a travel agency. In 1999, the Swazi Government set up a new airline, Swaziland Airlink (part of the South African Airlines group) and retains the 60% of the shares.

Un folleto bastante básico que estéticamente no es ninguna maravilla, pero es interesante ver cómo en 1988 Egyptair operaba con una curiosa mezcla de aparatos (707,767, A300, Fokker 27) una impresionante red que llegaba a Manila o Bangkok en Asia y a Los Angeles (vía Nueva York) en los EEUU.

A rather spartan looking timetable, not really nice to look at, but this Egyptair brochure shows that in 1988 the airline was operating with a nice ecclectic mix of planes (707,767,A300, Fokker 27) an interesting network which reached as far as Manila or Bangkok in Asia and Los Angeles via New York in the USA.

In 2001, Tunis was hosting the Mediterranean Games. This Tunisair timetable includes some pictures, both in the cover and inside, about the Games. it is a good example of an airline brochure / timetable used as a marketing device to promote a sports event.

El mapa de rutas había evolucionado bastante desde 1988, y en realidad es el mismo, o casi el mismo, que el que la empresa tiene en la actualidad. Mientras Royal Air Maroc o Air Algérie tienen rutas que llegan a América y Asia, Tunisair se centra fundamentalmente en el mercado de vuelos entre Europa y sus bases nacionales, aunque cuenta con cierta presencia en Oriente Medio y el África subsahariana.

The routemap had evolved greatly if compared to the 1988 map, and it was pretty much like the current map. Unlike Royal Air Maroc, or Air Algérie, which both serve intercontinental markets in America or in Asia, Tunisair focuses in the Europe-Tunis network. It also has flights to the Middle East and to Sub-Saharan Africa, but it mostly has a strong presence in the tourist markets.

Gambia Airways (1991)

Gambia Airways volaba rutas regionales desde Banjul, sobre todo a Dakar, pero también a otras capitales del África occidental. En realidad, no hay mucha información de esta aerolínea y no tengo muy claro (aunque sospecho que sí) si es una encarnación anterior de la estatal GIA (Gambia International Airways), creada con la ayuda de Air Namibia, que cubría más o menos las mismas rutas y que dejó de operar en 2007.

I think so, but I am not 100% sure this was a previous encarnation of GIA (Gambia International Airways), the state-owned airline which was closed down in 2007. GIA was founded with the technical support of Air Namibia and flew regional routes in Western Africa, mostly to Dakar but also to other capital cities. Gambia Airways had a similar weekly schedule.

TAP "Half a century in operation" (1995)

Un folleto muy bien editado por la TAP en 1995, con motivo de su 50 aniversario. Está lleno de datos y fotografías con la historia de la empresa; cuelgo aqui algunas de las fotos y podéis usar los enlaces abajo para ver el documento entero en PDF.

Este era el año en el que TAP empezaba a recibir los Airbus A340, y también cuando estaba a punto de empezar su ruta a Macau, tal como aparece representada en linea punteada en los mapas de rutas.

1995 was the year when TAP was getting its first Airbus A340. It was also about to start its Macau route, which appears as a dotted line in the routemaps.

Recientemente se ha anunciado que algunos de los A320 de Syrianair como el que adorna la portada de este horario están paralizados hasta que la aerolínea pueda llevar a cabo las tareas de mantenimiento necesarias. En realidad, aparte de los problemas que ya tiene el país ahora mismo, la actividad de Syrianair está muy comprometida ya que prácticamente ninguno de sus aviones está en condiciones de volar. Es además, una de las pocas aerolíneas que ha usado el 747SP como el que aparece en el mapa de rutas.

Syrianair is an airline that is facing much trouble, other than the current issues its home country is facing. Some of their Airbus A320 planes, like the one proudly displayed in this timetable cover, are grounded until due maintenance can be carried out. There are also fuel shortage problems and it seems the airline as a whole is virtually grounded as few of its airplanes are able to fly... Syrianair is also one of the few airlines that ever operated the Boeing 747SP, like the aircraft shown in the route map.
