KLM (1959/1960), Reino Unido [completo]

Very few airlines that are still active today are as experienced as KLM. It may sound a marketing tag phrase, but KLM was already celebrating its 40th anniversary in 1959 (!) This is a system timetable issued for the UK market, and it shows the wide global coverage the airline already had at the time and the impressive Caribbean network.

BEA / BOAC (1959), Portugal
As you all know, the British airlines were splitted in two different companies, BEA and BOAC. This timetable was aimed at the Portuguese market and included the BEA services between Portugal and the UK, some European and domestic services, and the BOAC/Qantas joint service between London and Australia.

Alitalia (1959), Reino Unido

This was certainly a fascinating era in aviation history. This very nice brochure was issued for the UK market and it includes all of Alitalia domestic, European and intercontinental services (at the time Alitalia flew to places such as Mogadiscio, which was under Italian rule). BEA flights between the UK and Italy are also shown. It was quite usual at the time that state-run flag carriers ran pool services between their countries.

If you care, take a look at the current menu ... IMHO, one of the worst in Europe and outrageously expensive.
We are now used to the fact that in most flights, specially when we fly short-haul, on board "service" is BOB ... but we also know that it was not always like that. It was quite common, however, to charge alcoholic drinks in Economy class. This is a Vintage 1959 Iberia brochure, showing a fare list for international flights.
