DBA (2005/2006)

A mediados de la primera década del siglo, British Airways se deshizo de su filial alemana Deutsche BA, que se reconvirtió con un cambio de imagen y nombre en DBA. La nueva empresa, centrada en el mercado doméstico alemán y algunos pocos enlaces internacionales, pretendía ser la tercera aerolínea tras Lufthansa y Air Berlin, después de haber comprado parte de las acciones de su rival ✈Gexx (Germania Express)

A few years into the first decade of the 21th century, British Airways sold its German airline Deutsche BA, which rebranded itself with a new identity and a new name, DBA. The newly reborn airline got hold on a majority stake of the shares of its rival airline ✈Gexx (Germania Express) and which a network structure centered on the German domestic market, it aimed at becoming Germany third largest airline after Lufthansa and Air Berlin.

Deutsche BA (1997)

Deutsche BA apenas estuvo unos 15 años en operación, que no son pocos pero tampoco demasiados, y en ese tiempo se reinventó varias veces, tanto desde el punto de vista de imagen como de concepto de aerolínea que pretendía ser.

Este folleto de 1997,  bastante en sintonía con la imagen de la matriz British Airways, anunciaban una "reinvención" que era, básicamente, una simplificación de la empresa, que pasaba a operar en clase única esencialmente vuelos domésticos en el mercado alemán, salvo algunos vuelos desde Gatwick operados con código BA.

Deutsche BA history lasted about 15 years long, it was not exactly a short lived adventure like many others, but it was neither a longstanding aviation legend. Nevertheless, they managed to reinvent themselves several times during this time span, both concept- and servicewise and also on the brand and logo side.

This 1997 timetable follows the general guidelines of the global image British Airways was using at the time, and it also introduces a "new" Deutsche BA, which basically was a simplification of the airline, which would from then on focus on a simple one cabin fleet flying mostly German domestic flights, save for some Gatwick routes under a BA flight number.

Deutsche BA (1992)

Este es el horario inaugural de Deutsche BA, la rama alemana de British Airways creada con la intención de mantener su presencia en el mercado doméstico alemán y formar parte de una red europea de alianzas y franquicias de la aerolínea británica. Cuando compenzó a operar en 1992 lo hizo partiendo de la estructura de Delta Air, una pequeña compañía regional en la que British poseía el 49% de las acciones.

Deutsche BA was born in 1992 as the German branch of British Airways, which aimed at both building a network of franchise and partner airlines across Europe, and to maintain its German domestic market presence. It was actually a renaming of the former small regional carrier Delta Air, of which BA had bought a 49% of the shares.

Deutsche BA (2001)

En 2001, la filial alemana de British Airways se había convertido, aparte de una operadora de vuelos domésticos, en un vector regional para Oneworld, conectando los hubs de British e Iberia con Colonia y Munich. También compartían códigos con Finnair y con TAP a Lisboa.  También se listaban los vuelos de US Airways (que mantenía una relación con BA) de Philadelphia a Munich.

By 2001, the German branch of British Airways was mostly a regional carrier connecting Oneworld hubs in Madrid and London to its domestic German network. It also codeshared with TAP and with Finnair. US Airways was still tied with BA and thus the Philadelphia-Munich flight was also listed.

Deutsche BA (1994) [completo]

A mediados de los 90, y antes de que existiesen las alianzas aéreas, las grandes compañías europeas como British Airways, Swissair o KLM intentaban hacerse con el control del mercado en el continente utilizando aliadas regionales.
Deutsche BA era el nombre de la aerolínea creada cuando British Airways compró el 49% de las acciones de una compañía regional alemana (Delta Air), que empezó a volar como su subsidiaria. Inicialmente tenía una pequeña red de rutas domésticas, plantándole cara a Lufthansa con tarifas más bajas, para más tarde pasar a volar en código compartido con BA a destinos europeos, fundamentalmente en España y el Reino Unido. En este folleto de 1994 se presentan como "la otra línea aérea alemana" y "Alemania despega".
Aunque British llegó a tener el 100% de la empresa, finalmente se desprendió de su filial, que cambió el nombre a DBA y operó por un tiempo como low cost antes de unirse a  LTU. De este modo pasó a ser parte del grupo Air Berlin, donde mantuvo durante un breve tiempo su identidad independiente.

In the mid 90's, before the airline alliances as we know them know, the European big players such as British Airways, KLM or Swissair  were busy trying to get hold of the European market and building a network of smaller regional airlines. 

Deutsche BA was born when British airways bought the 49% of the shares of the German airline Delta Air, and it started flying as their German subsidiary. At first, they had a small domestic network, posing competition against Lufthansa with lower fares. They later flew some European destinations, mostly to Spain and the United Kingdom as British Airways codeshares. In this 1994 brochure the airline is marketed as "the other German airline" and "Germany takes off".

British Airways got the 100% of the shares at some point, but eventually they got rid of their German airline which changed its name to DBA and began flying as a low cost airline. DBA and LTU joined forces some years later, and after some time they both were bought into the Air Berlin group. DBA operated as an independent brand under the Air Berlin group for some time until it ceased operations in 2008.
