Creo que alguna vez ya comenté que uno de mis primeros vuelos fue de Santiago (SCQ) a Düsseldorf en un Caravelle de Aero Lloyd. En este mapa de 1996 la ciudad sigue apareciendo en su mapa de destinos, pero lo cierto es que no hay ni rastro de ese vuelo en las páginas interiores. Es, también, una compañía que me cae bien porque ha sido el principal operador alemán de la familia MD-80.

Por otro lado, llaman mucho la atención en este folleto algunos anuncios que ya parecen del Jurásico, como los que invitan a comunicarse con la aerolínea por fax o por un extrañísimo sistema (parecido al Minitel francés)

I just fell in love with Aero Lloyd as one of the first flights I can rember was on one of their Caravelles from Santiago (SCQ) to Düsseldorf. The city was still on their 1996 destination map, even if there is no trace of this flight inside this timetable. I also like this airline because it once was the largest German operator of the MD-80 family.

On the other hand, some inner pages just seem from other era, eons ago. Just look at those ads about "fax on demand" and bizarre Minitel-like services as means to contact the airline.

Aero Lloyd (1989)

El DC-9 y la familia MD-80 no fueron aviones muy utlilizados en el mercado alemán. Nada que ver, desde luego, con España, Italia, Suiza o Suecia donde reinaron durante muchísimos años. Aero Lloyd es una compañía de vuelos charter, que más tarde pasó a operar algunos de sus vuelos de forma regular. En este horario de 1989 aparecen los mapas de cabina de sus DC-9, MD-83 y MD-87. Ya habíamos publicado antes una versión preliminar de esta misma programación de 1989.

Unlike Spain, Italy, Switzerland or Sweden, where it dominated the skies for many years, the DC-9 and MD-8x family were rarely used by German airlines. A noticeable exception was Aero Lloyd, a German leisure carrier that eventually also flew shechuled flights. This 1989 timetable shows cabin plans for its DC-9, MD-83 and MD-87 planes.There is a link on this blog to an advance copy of the same 1989 timetable.

Aero Lloyd (1991/1992)

Aero Lloyd es una compañía que siempre me ha gustado y caído bien, en parte por los recuerdos de infancia en vuelos charter con ellos, y en parte por la flota que tenían (primero volé en uno de sus Caravelles, y luego en sus MD-82/83) 

A principios de los 90, Aero Lloyd empezó tímidamente a introducirse en el mercado doméstico alemán. La compañía buscaba expandirse y estaba incluso pensando en adquirir aviones del modelo MD-11 para volar a EEUU y Asia.

Tal vez me lo parezca a mi, pero hay algunos parecidos entre la entrada de aerolíneas como Aero Lloyd (o la muy efímera German Wings, que no tiene nada que ver con la actual Germanwings) en el mercado alemán y los tímidos intentos de esos mismos años en el mercado español ...

En 1991 había una gran necesidad de vuelos entre la antigua RFA y Berlín. Estos eran los vuelos de Aero Lloyd entre Frankfurt y el aeropuerto de Tegel. La compañía intentó hacerse con un contrato federal para transportar funcionarios entre Colonia y Berlin, pero este finalmente lo ganó Germania.

Aero Lloyd is one of those airlines I have a soft spot for ... Firstly because I remember the charter flights between Germany and Spain I flew with them, and secondly because of their fleet. I was a passenger on one of their Caravelles, and later flew their MD-83/83. 

In the early 90's, Aero Lloyd was starting flying scheduled services, both domestically and international. There are some resemblances with the early attempts of private carriers in the Spanish market, or so it seems to me. Aero lloyd was also a quite ambitious airline and it had plans to introduce some MD-11 between Germany, Asia and the USA. 

In 1991, shortly after the Wall fell , there was a huge demand between the former West Germany and Berlin. This timetable shows Aero Lloyd flights between Frankfurt and Tegel. The airline also bid for the Federal contract for the transportation of public officials between Cologne and Berlin, but eventualy Germania won the bid.

Aero Lloyd (1989)

Aero Lloyd era una empresa charter alemana que a finales de los 80 decidió internarse en el mercado regular. Esta es una edición preliminar con sus vuelos domésticos en Alemania, en el que anuncian sus planes de volar a Londres, Paris y Zürich en breve.

Fue una de las pocas empresas alemanas en usar el DC-9/ MD-83 (y antes de ello, el Caravelle; tuve la suerte de volar en uno de esta empresa entre Santiago y Düsseldorf en un vuelo charter), pero más tarde se pasó al A320. La empresa cerró por falta de liquidez en 2003 y durante un tiempo los dueños operaron una segunda encarnación de Aero Lloyd bajo el nombre Aero Flight.

Aero Lloyd was a German charter airline that in the late 80's applied for some scheduled flights. This is an "advance edition" showing their domestic network and their intention to start services to London, Paris and Zürich.

It was one of the few German airlines that flew the DC-9 /MD-83 (and the Caravelle before that; I flew one of their Caravalles between Santiago and Dússelforf in a charter flight), but they later changed to an Airbus A320 fleet. In 2003, the airline was closed down due to lack of enough founding and the owners ran a "second incarnation" called Aero Flight for a brief time.
