TACA (1990/1991)

En los 90, TACA todavía era el acrónimo de Transportes Aéreos Centro Americanos; era la aerolínea de El Salvador y destacaba sobre otras compañías de la región con una red que llegaba a Los Angeles y Nueva York y sobre todo porque además de los 737-200 y -300 que usaban sus competidoras tenía el 767 en su flota. Había de hecho planes para lanzar vuelos a Europa (Madrid y Frankfurt), aunque eso no llegó a ocurrir. La red estaba muy interconectada y servía todas las capitales centroamericanas desde su hub en San Salvador, además de que muchos vuelos hacían escala en Belice. Miami era, por supuesto, un destino muy importante.

In the 90's, TACA was still just the Salvadorian airline and its name stand for Transportes Aéreos Centro Americanos (Air Transport of Cental America). Anyhow, Taca was larger than other airlines in the region and flew to New York and Los Angeles; Also, their fleet had the 767 besides the usual 737-200 and -300 used by its rival airlines.There were plans to launch European services (to Madrid and Frankfurt), but that never happened. Taca had a well connected network and flew from its San Salvador hub to the neighbouring capitals; many flights from Central America to the USA had an intermediate stop at Belize and Miami was, of course, a key destination.

Como seguramente sabréis, Taca está ahora en una alianza con la colombiana Avianca (a la que se piensa unir la ecuatoriana Aerogal), que cubre todo el continente. La red centroamericana, de hecho, no ha cambiado demasiado...

As you may well know, Taca has teamed up with Colombian carrier Avianca (Aerogal from Ecuador is expected to join this alliance) and their combined route network extends across the Americas. Only the Central American network has remained pretty much unchanged...

Aviaco (1988/1989)

 En 1988, Aviaco acababa de renovar su imagen corporativa con un nuevo logotipo e introducía otras novedades, como la "clase preferente" en los vuelos operados con DC-9, a semejanza de la que ofrecía Iberia. En el mapa de rutas se puede ver que la mayoría de las ciudades españolas estaban unidas con Madrid y/o Barcelona, pero también tenía bastantes rutas transversales y servicios regionales como en las islas, junto con otros más extraños como Murcia-Almería. También "competía" con Iberia en algunas rutas.

In 1988, Aviaco had just updated its corportate identity with a new logo, and also introduced some other new features such as the "clase preferente" business class (in the DC-9 fleet only) to match Iberia offer on domestic flights. Most Spanish cities were linked with Madrid and/or Barcelona, but there were also many trasversal links, regional flights in the Canaries and Balearic islands, and also some other odd city pairs such as Murcia - Almería. Some routes were flown by Iberia and Aviaco at the same time, but there was no real competetion between the two airlines..

Laker Airways : Skytrain (1980)

Originalmente era una empresa charter, pero a finales de los años 70 Laker Airways se convirtió en la primera empresa de vuelos baratos del mundo, al ofrecer vuelos transatlánticos entre el Reino Unido y los EEUU a muy bajos precios en los que los "extras" como la comida a bordo se pagaban aparte. Un poco como la idea de Air Madrid, pero 40 años antes y sin hacer chapuzas ... Tenían planes para expandir el servicio a otros destinos como Hong Kong y Australia, aunque la empresa no sobrevivió a la crisis de 1980. Este es un horario de justamente ese año, con los horarios entre Londres, Nueva York, Miami y Los Ángeles, que incluía información de coches de alquiler y hoteles en Londres.

At first it was a charter airline, but in the late 70's Laker Airways introduced the first "no frills" air service between the UK and the USA. Laker Sytrain offered very cheap flight tickets, were onboard "extras" such as meals were charged separately. It was a revolutionary idea at the time, pretty much like Air Madrid only that it was 40 years before and it was done seriously ... There were plans to expand the service to other destinations such as Hong Kong and Australia, but the airline did not manage to survive the 1980 crisis. This timetable was issued right that year, and it included rental car and hotels in London information.

Ryanair (2002/2003) [completo]

En 2002, Ryanair sólo volaba a once países europeos y el único vuelo que tenía en España era entre "Frankfurt" Hahn y "Barcelona" - Girona ... este es un folleto lleno de avisos con las reglas de Ryanair que conocemos tan bien (al menos, los aerotranstornados) que también incluye mapas de rutas, información de los aeropuertos que sirve y un montón de anuncios, entre ellos uno de Boeing.

Ryanair only served 11 European countries in 2002 and their only flight in Spain was "Frankfurt" Hahn - "Barcelona" Girona. This brochure is full with little notes regarding the Ryanair rules we all already know (or at least, some of us, that is) and also included route maps, airport information and lots of ads, including a Boeing one.

Air Malta (2007)

La línea aérea maltesa actualmente está en muy mala situación económica y no es claro si podrá seguir operando durante mucho tiempo ... En realidad, hasta hace poco se había beneficiado de una situación de semimonopolio, con muy pocas líneas aéreas extranjeras volando a la isla y por tanto de poder cobrar tarifas nada baratas. Una buena parte de los problemas de Air Malta en la actualidad se reducen a la presencia de empresas como Ryanair o Vueling en la isla.

The Maltese national carrier is in no good shape at all nowadays and it is uncertain if it will manage to operate ... It had actually benefited until recently from very little competition from other foreign airlines at Malta, thus charging quite high fares. Most of current Air Malta concerns are related with airlines such as Ryanair and Vueling flying to Malta...

 La red de rutas cubre más o menos todo el continente europeo, y algún destino en Africa; evidentemente, los vuelos intercontinentales (como Washington que aparece en el mapa) son códigos compartidos (con Lufthansa, via Munich)

Air Malta serves most of the European continent, plus some added destinations in North Africa; as you would expect, intercontinental fligts (such as "Washington" proudly shown on the map) are codeshares (with Lufthansa via Munich)

 En algún momento, Air Malta llegó a tener su propia operación low cost (fare4u), pero ahora mismo se concentra en diferenciarse de otras aerolíneas y en proponer productos como este para transportar más barato el exceso de equipaje.

At some point, Air Malta had a low cost branch (fare4u), but it is current strategy is to offer an added value product and some discounts such as lower rates for excess baggage transport.

Icelandair (2011)

Un folleto de Icelandair que no se va por las ramas, y que aparte de la información imprescindible apenas hace algo de publicidad sobre las cabinas que ofrece en sus vuelos.
A really no-nonsense, quite dull timetable by Icelandair, which just provides the bare mininum information and some small ads about their onboard product. 

SilkAir (2011)

Silkair es la filial regional de Singapore Airlines. Vuela a la mayoría de sus destinos de corto radio en Asia y opera su flota de aviones de un solo pasillo (En la actualidad, A319 y A320)

Silkair is Singapore Airlines regional subsidiary. It flies to most of its parent airline shorthaul destinations in Asia and it also operates its single aisle cabin fleet (Currently, A319 and A320)

Air Glaciers (2006)

Air Glaciers es una compañía suiza que opera desde el aeropuerto de Sion. Está especializada en trabajos aéreos y en particular en rescates en la nieve, aunque opera algunos servicios de transporte de pasajeros, y algunos vuelos regulares.

Air Glaciers is a Swiss airline that flies from Sion airport. It is an air taxi and aerial works company that is specialized in aerial rescue / air ambulance flights, but it also provides passenger transportation services and some scheduled flights.
