Air Europe started as the Italian sister of the current Spanish airline Air Europa, and eventually became part of the Volare group and thus was terminated in 2008 when the new Alitalia was born. It was also the Italian arm of the Qualiflyer group for some time, and just like other members it feeded Sabena and Swissair hubs as well as codeshared with other airlines in the same alliance.
Now, there might have been a good point behind Qualiflyer multi-hub concept at some time, but then it rapidly became a nightmarish mix of unrelated airlines and the strategy behind, if there was any strategy, was unclear. Air Europe was mostly a leisure carrier and it was certainly a strange addition to this family of airlines.
