In 1971, Portugal was still under the rule of the fascist Salazar regime. The Portuguese Empire (those were the years were Portugal claimed it was no small country) and the colonial rule were one of the basis the Portuguese politics at the time, and thus TAP Portuguese Airways had a fairly impressive African network if compared with their surprisingly small array of European flights. Actually, this is no wonder since Portugal at the time was "facing the Atlantic" and not the European continent, or at least that was the official explanation of their isolationism towards Europe. On the other hand, I really like the promo on the last page : "All airlines are alike. Only people make them different"
