LTU was one of the main German airlines until it was bought by Air Berlin. Most, if not all, of current Air Berlin longhaul destinations are cities previously served by LTU.
The airline was headquartered at Düsseldorf and from there they flew to a large network of intercontinental destinations, and thus they were an interesting alternative to Lufthansa. They were, however, a leisure airline, and like other German carriers, they combined direct sell of seats on their flights with classic tour operator charter packages. Some of their flights were operated by their Spanish subsidiary LTE.
